PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
JUNE 2009

Dear Colleagues,
This year we will be having a series of summer events called the Summer Networking Series. The purpose of this program has two primary goals. Foremost, to focus solely on networking and building relationships among our members. Additionally, we are using the Summer Networking Series to promote IMA and increase our membership and attendance to Las Vegas Chapter Events. Our first event will be on June 23rd at Bar Louie at Town Square (see details below). Everyone is welcome so I encourage you to please invite your co-workers and business associates to come down and share in the fun and networking!

Also, our next Library Series event will be on June 17th at 6:00 PM at Enterprise Library. The topic will be “Order from Chaos: The FASB Accounting Standards Codification” which discusses the transition of US GAAP to the online research system.
We are holding the Summer Planning Session on July 7th to come up with great topics and speakers for the upcoming year. Please let me know if you’re interested in participating. We have some exciting ideas on how to make this a great year for the Las Vegas Chapter and we’d like your input on how to make the year even better.
A big THANK YOU to Kim Wallin, Nevada State Controller for giving us a great update on Nevada’s Finance at our May 12th meeting. It was also a nice surprise to have past IMA president John Pollara in attendance and have him share his thoughts with us.
Finally, many of you don’t know about the IMA Chapter competition. Each year, the IMA has a competition which ranks chapters on a point scoring system. Chapters receive points for membership, certification, special events and other events. In the coming newsletter, we will give you insight into how the point works and how you can help the chapter get to #1. So far, we’re doing great!
In 2008-09 we ranked 15th out of 94 chapters in the Stevenson Division (chapters with 125+ members), an improvement from 28th in 2007-2008. Last year was only the fourth time in our chapter history we earned a banner, and to come back even stronger is an awesome achievement. This is our chapter’s 40th Anniversary year, so let’s go for a 3-pete and get to #1. Help us get to #1 by improving your resume with certification as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA®).
