PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
August 2008
Dear Colleagues,
I want to welcome everyone to the Las Vegas Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA®), which is the world’s leading association representing financial and accounting professionals who work inside organizations.
A big congratulations to Patrick Wilson and his board for winning a National Banner by ranking 24th in the Stevenson Division of the IMA Chapter Competition for the 2007-08 year. This is only the 3rd time in the nearly four decades of our Chapter’s existence that we’ve received this recognition. It’s a result of a lot of hard work from a lot of committed members for a long time. I intend to keep this momentum going, and back-to-back banner years sounds mighty fine to me. My board and I are dedicated to bringing outstanding speakers to our chapter meetings, along withnetworking and emphasis on how the Certified Management Accountant (CMA®) designation can help advance your career.
We will kick off the 2008-09 year at our September 9th meeting with an encore presentation from Jeff Simpson, Las Vegas Sun Business Editor. Jeff is going to give us an update on the Las Vegas economy. Be sure to attend if you missed him last year, as he gave an excellent presentation, followed by an outstanding Q&A section. In October, Mary Beth Hartleb, J.D., SPHR-CA, of PRISM Human Resource Consulting Services, Inc. will give a presentation about current Human Resource Management issues and the effects of downsizing. In November, we will wrap up this economic and employment series with “Credit Issues” as the topic. In December, we will once again partner with the Institute of Internal Auditors for a joint “Ethics” meeting; this 2-hour CPE session will be a breakfast meeting at Bali Hai Cili. Our January meeting is scheduled with Piercy, Bowler, Taylor and Kern CPAs for an interesting accounting subject matter. A tax update session presented by RSM McGladrey is planned for February. In March, we will feature a speaker from the U.S. Postal Service who will discuss identity theft. April’s meeting will be on renewable energy, and we will close the year with our 2nd Annual Corporate Night to be held on May 12, 2009 with a very special speaker to be announced later. Please visit our website, www.imalvc.com to view our upcoming events for 2008-09.
I am looking forward to a great year. Please share your comments and suggestions with me at cecilia.mutee@anclv.com. I can’t wait to hear from you.
